A Serological Investigation of Pestivirus, Bluetongue Virus and Peste Des Petits Ruminants Virus in Small Ruminants in Samsun Province of Turkey

Year 2012, Volume: 7 Issue: 3, 155 - 160, 03.01.2013

Abstract

Abstract: Bluetongue virus (BTV) is a vector-borne disease of ruminants disseminated in the tropic and sub-tropic zone of the world. All pestiviruses are important veterinary pathogens causing economic losses in cattle, sheep and pigs. Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) is a contagious viral disease of the domestic and wild ruminants. In this study, blood samples randomly collected from 144 sheep and 50 goats were analysed for the presence of antibodies to pestiviruses, BTV and PPRV using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in the  province of Samsun and their towns.  Because pestiviruses cause persistent infection, antigen tests for this agent have also been performed. Seropositivity rates in sheep were detected as 0%, 3.47% and 90.27 for BTV, PPRV and pestiviruses, respectively. In addition, the pestivirus antigen was detected in three sheep serum samples. Positivity rates for infections in goats varied and were as follows: BTV 4.0%; PPRV 2.0%; pestiviruses 10.0%, however no pestivirus antigen was detected in goats.

Türkiye Samsun Yöresi Mandalarında (Bubalus bubalis Linneaus, 1758) Bazı Abortla İlişkili Etiyolojik Ajanların Serolojik Olarak Araştırılması

Year 2012, Volume: 7 Issue: 3, 155 - 160, 03.01.2013
