A Cat with Vertebral Osteosarcoma: Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Surgical Treatment

Abstract

The aim of this study is to report clinical, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), surgical and histopathologic findings of vertebral osteosarcoma in a cat. 6-year-old mix cat was presented to the clinic with a symptom of progressive tetraplegia for 3 months. According to the neurologic examination, it was thought that the lesion could be between C6-T2 vertebrae. With respect to the neurologic examination, radiographic findings showed a radioluscent area between C6-C7 vertebrae. In addition, MRI findings defined an extramedullary mass included lamina and processus spinosus of C7. Surgery was performed and tumor was extirpated. According to the histopathologic examination, the tumor was confirmed as osteosarcoma. Chemotherapy protocol was applied to the patient 5 times between 21 days interval. The cat survived for 18 months. Combination of surgical intervention and adjuvant therapy is suggested for the treatment protocol for vertebral osteosarcoma.

Bir Kedide Vertebral Osteosarkoma: Manyetik Rezonans Görüntüleme ve Operatif Sağaltımı

Abstract

Bu rapor, bir kedide vertebral osteosarkoma’nın klinik, manyetik rezonans görüntüleme, cerrahi ve histopatolojik sonuçlarını bildirmektedir. Üç ay önce başlayan progresif seyirli tetrapleji şikayeti olan 6 yaşlı-dişi-melez kedi konu edildi. Nörolojk muayene sonucunda, lezyonun C6-T2 vertebraları arasında olabileceği düşünüldü. Bunun üzerine yapılan radyografik incelemede; C6-C7 vertebraları arasında radyolüsen bir alana rastlandı. Manyetik Rezonans Görüntülemede (MRG), C7’nin lamina ve prosessus spinozusunu kapsayan ekstradural yerleşimli kitle teşhis edildi. Cerrahi müdahale ile uzaklaştırılan kitlenin histolojik incelemesinde osteosarkom tanısı kondu. Operasyon sonrası süreçte adjuvan tedavi amacıyla; 21 gün arayla toplam 5 doz Karboplatin uygulandı. Hasta 18 ay yaşadı. Vertebral osteosarkomların tedavisinde temiz cerrahi alan ve adjuvan tedavi önerilir bulundu.
