Abstract

Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the anesthetic effect of clove oil applied in different proportions in male and female guppy (Poecilia reticulata) fish. Adult male and female fish were used to evaluate the anesthetic effect. The doses were determined as clove oil concentrations of 0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2 ml per liter separately in male and female fish. During the experiment, the time of entry and exit from anesthesia, body weight and total height were measured. The effects of clove oil applied in different doses on fish were observed 48 hours after the experiment. Anesthesia entry time was determined as 154.93 ± 6.2, 136.07 ± 5.3 and 110.40 ± 3.5 seconds, 330.20 ± 12.8, 443.20 ± 29.4 and 603.87 ± 17.0 seconds, respectively in men; In females, the time to enter anesthesia was 123.03 ± 4.9, 109.50 ± 3.2 and 89.20 ± 3.0 seconds, and the exit from anesthesia was 186.20 ± 9.0, 216.70 ± 8.8 and 249.67 ± 8.9 seconds. The statistically significant difference between male and female genders revealed that males entered anesthesia later and emerged later. As a result, it has been observed that clove oil can be used effectively in guppy male and female fish in all three doses and does not cause any harmful effects.
