Ankilozan Spondilit ve Romatoid Artrit Hastalarının Sosyodemografik ve Klinik Değişkenlere Göre İlaç Uyumları: Betimsel bir çalışma

Year 2022, Volume: 9 Issue: 4, 299 - 308, 01.12.2022

Abstract

Medication Adherence of Patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis and Rheumatoid Arthritis by Sociodemographic Variables and Clinical Properties: A Descriptive Study

Year 2022, Volume: 9 Issue: 4, 299 - 308, 01.12.2022

Abstract

Objective: Medication adherence is critical to Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) patients since they need long-term medical treatment. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to examine medication adherence and reveal the factors influencing adherence. Materials and Methods: Medication Adherence Report Scale, Sociodemographic Information Form, and Clinical Information Form were conducted on 222 patients (RA: N=112; 50.45%; AS: N=110; 49.55%). Results: The Two-way ANOVA results tested the combined effect on diagnosis and sociodemographic and clinical factors on medication adherence that was not significant. Besides, neither sociodemographic (age, gender, education level, and employment status) nor clinical (drug code and type) variables had a significant main effect on medication adherence. On the other hand, no common effect of diagnosis and any sociodemographic characteristics on adherence. Also, only the combined effect of diagnosis and drug code on medication adherence was significant (p<.05). Conclusion: These results showed that RA and AS patients' medication adherence was similar in terms of many clinical and sociodemographic variables, except for the drug code. Consequently, both clinical groups could be carried out together, but these studies should be designed to consider the patients' drug code.
