Ultrasonographic evaluation of biceps brachii muscle and bicipital tendon in horses

Öz

The objectives of the study were to determine the normal and abnormal ultrasonographic images of biceps brachii muscle and bicipital tendon, which is the major extensor of scapulohumeral joint, and to statistically evaluate the sectional measurements of bicipital tendon. One hundred seven horses were included in the study and they were divided into four age groups. Transversal and sagittal ultrasonographic images of the right and left biceps brachii muscles and bicipital tendons were obtained from each horse using 5.0 and 7.5-8.0 MHz linear transducers. Transversal images of bicipital tendon revealed that the tendon originated from the supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula (zone A) as a hiperechoic convex structure, and continued as a homogeneously echogenic biportioned texture till the level of intertubercular sulcus (zone B). At the point of intertubercular groove (zone C), it was determined that the tendon composed of lateral, intermediate and medial lobes and the sagittal measurements of these lobes were 21.4 mm, 11.18 mm and 16.4 mm, respectively. Atlarda biceps brachii kası ve tendosunun ultrasonografik değerlendirmesi

Öz

Çalışmada atlarda omuz ekleminin önemli ekstensoru olan biceps brachii kası ve tendosunun normal ve anormal ultrasonografik görüntülerinin ortaya konulması ve değişik kesitsel ölçüm değerlerinin istatistiksel olarak değerlendirilmesi amaçlandı. Çalışma materyalini 107 at oluşturdu. Atlar 4 farklı yaş grubunda sınıflandırıldı. Her atın sağ ve sol biceps brachii kası ve tendosunun transversal ve sagittal ultrasonografik görüntüleri, 5.0 ve 7.5-8.0 MHz’lik lineer problar kullanılarak elde edildi. Transversal taramalarda, m. biceps brachii tendosunun tuberkulum supraglenoidale’den hiperekoik yassı bir yapıda çıktığı (A bölgesi) ve intertüberküler oluk düzeyine kadar (B bölgesi) tendonun iki parçalı ve homojen hiperekoik bir yapıda seyrettiği görüldü. İntertüberküler oluk düzeyinde (C bölgesi) tendonun lateral, intermedier ve medial loblardan oluştuğu ve bu lobların ortalama sagittal ölçümlerinin sırasıyla 21.4 mm, 11.18 mm ve 16.4 mm olduğu belirlendi. M. biceps brachii tendosu’nun “C” bölgesinde yapılan ölçüm değerleri ortalamalarında hayvanların sağ ve sol omuzları arasındaki farkın istatistiksel olarak önemsiz olduğu (p>0.05); ancak yaş gruplarına göre yapılan istatistiksel değerlendirmelerde ortaya çıkan farklılıkların önemli olduğu belirlendi (p
