An investigation on the feathering colour characteristics and body weight of a Denizli Fowl flock

Öz

This investigation was held to study the feathering colours and body weight estimates of a Denizli fowl flock. Live material of this study was consisted of 388 Denizli day-olds and their grown ups. Feather colour in different age groups and average body weights in different weeks were considered in the study. It was found that the distributions of cotton grey, red cock and black colours of the feather and neck regions in females at 22 nd weeks were the same for both regions, that is, 21.1, 17.1, 61.8 %, while the distribution of cotton grey, red cock, dark speckled grey and light mohagany in males at the same age were 43.6, 6.8, 47.4 and 2.2 %, respectively. Mature body weight of the males and females in the 22 weeks of age were 2060.14 g and 1423.73 g respectively (p<0.001). To determine of different feather colours showed that this Denizli flock may have many useful qualitative genes, which may be useful for animal breeding operations

Öz

Bu araştırma, Denizli Irkına ait bir tavuk sürüsünün telek rengi ve canlı ağırlık bakımından incelenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışmada Denizli ırkı 388 adet günlük civciv ve bunların büyütülmeleri ile elde edilen piliçler kullanılmıştır. Civciv, piliç ve ergin çağdaki dişi ve erkeklerde telek renkleri ile değişik haftalarda canlı ağırlık ortalamaları araştırmada ele alınan özellikler olmuştur. Dişi ve erkeklerin farklı vücut bölgelerindeki telek renkleri incelenmiş, 22 hafta sonunda, dişilerde kanat ve boyun bölgesinde, pamukkır, kırmızı ve siyah renklerin dağılımları her iki bölge için %21.1, 17.1, 61.8 iken; erkeklerde, kanatta pamukkır %43.6, alhoroz %6.8, demirkır %47.4, pekmez kefi %2.2 bulunmuştur. Denizli ırkı sürüde 22 hafta sonunda ortalama canlı ağırlıklar dişilerde 1423.73 g iken, erkeklerde 2060.14 g olarak (p<0.001) belirlenmiştir. Sürüde farklı telek renklerinin tespit edilmesi, bu sürüde hayvan ıslahı çalışmalarında yararlanılması olası birçok kalitatif genin bulunabileceğini ifade etmektedir
