Parasitic diseases of animals have a wide range of distribution in Turkey. A detailed information of the parasitic invasions and currently applied both preventive and therapeutie measures against the comman parasıtıc
diseases, particularly those of in livestock are presented in this article.
Turkey has a "ast potential for livestoek produetion. According
to the latest statisties, the total number of livestoek is around 80
million. When poultry is included this number reaehes to 130 million.
Despite of high number of animals in this eountry, prorl.uetion
per animal is not satisfaetory. A number of factors do affeet the
low lcvcl of produetion. One of the main factors is genctic infcriority of the animals. Howe\'er varioııs parasitic and infeetious di,seases also plaY,a major role in this respeet.
To clarify the general distribution of the parasitic diseases,
they may be classified under three headings as protozoan, helminthie inteetions and arthropod infestations.
