In this research, osteologic development of the bones of thoracic limb on the 72 New Zealand rabbit was investigated within a period of birth through 198th postnatal day. The bonesof thoracic limb were stained by use of alizarin red-s and
alcian blue double staining method. Measuring of the bones were obtained by using a 150 mm calipers. The results were displayed by
photography and graphics. Likewise, numerical data obtained were analysed and evaluated by use of computer with X" and T test.
The data revealed that lenght of the bones in right legs was significantly higher than that of the left legs (p<0,09), thus, primary and
secondary ossification centers in the bones of thoracic limbs were obtained in detai!. Beginning of the ossification in all the bones of
thoracic limbs except the carpal bones and os coracoides was determined before parturation. The ossification rate was found to be
very high within the first IS weeks. Later, it was shown that ossification decreased gradually for 13 weeks period. Ceasing of the ossification in the thoracic limb was determined after 28 weeks of the postnatal development. In the last period, the cartilage tissue was
seen in the joint cartilages, both end of the clavicula, and cartilages of the scapula.
