Gaping defects and large diaphragmatic hcrnia may defy standard attempts for repair and rcconstriction. Undcr such circumstances a graft must be incorporated to thc rcconstriction to bridge the gap or reinforce an othcrwise tenuous repair.
Many kinds of matcrials have been tried such as fascia, skin, muscle, metallic materi aLSand synthetie meshes. Succesfull results have bcen obtained in the vcntral, umblieal

This study was undertaken to determinc the reparing effeets of the synthetic materials
in the hernia diahragmatica. We used synthetic materials (Mersilene Mesh) in this study.
10 dogs (in diffcrent ages and different sex) were uscd experimentally. The operations

cavum thoracis.
The defeets were 12 x 12 cm' •• 20 x 20 cm'.
One ease which have had hernia diaphragmatica due to the pericarditis traumatica
