Abstract

This study was performed to determine the antioxidant levels and some biochemical parameters on natural infected dogs with Toxocara canis and/or T.leonina and treated dogs. In this study three to six years old and different sexes thirty dogs were used. The dogs naturally infected with Toxocara canis and/or Toxascaris leonina were allocated in two groups as treated (n=18) and positive control (n=6), whereas dogs, not infected with helminth, were kept as a negative control (n=6). Eprinomectin with 100 µg/kg dose were orally used in treated group, while dogs in negative and positive were not treated with any drugs. Prior to treatment blood and faeces samples were collected from all dogs and sample collection was continued on day 7 and day 15 posttreatment. Blood reduced glutathione (GSH), plasma malondialdehyde (MDA), antioxidant activity (AOA), glucose, total protein, urea, creatinin, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT) levels were detected. Eggs per gram faeces (EPG) was performed and the severity of infection was detected in the infected dogs. In this study, the total protein and antioxidant activity was alleviated while plasma creatinin and lipid peroxidation levels were increased in the dogs natural infected with T. canis and/or T. leonina. Treatment with suitable an anthelmintic drug this helminth parasites is effective to alleviate the oxidative damage
