Abstract

For the aim of retrospective evaluation of dermatophytosis in cats and dogs, in this study, the samples taken from 164 cats and 357 dogs which came to University of Ankara, Faculty of Veterinary, Department of Microbiology with dermatophytosis suspicion between the year 1998 and 2003, were investigated. Overall, the 20.3% of the suspicious samples, in cats 21.9% and in dogs 19.6% dermatophytosis agents were isolated and identified. Microsporum spp. found to be the most isolated agent (60.4%) and Trichophyton spp. (39.6%) was also isolated as the agent of dermatophytosis. This study shows no difference of any seasonal trend in dermatophytosis
